V behind on blogging! For class last Wednesday, we went to San Marco, a monastery that is now a museum dedicated to the Renaissance artist Fra Angelico and the church of Santa Maria Novella. Additionally, we had the opportunity to tour an art restoration lab and stand so close to an original artwork by Leonardo da Vinci I could almost touch it. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to take pictures there - we were followed by a security guard the whole time, as you can imagine, because some of the most famous art pieces in Florence are undergoing restoration there. Getting to the the restoration lab and how scientists and artists are working together to preserve these artworks was really something; this was definitely one of my favorite, and one of the most interesting, site visits we have had thus far.
